'Radicalised' 16-year-old shot dead by Australian police after stabbing

NEW DELHI: Australian police fatally shot a 16-year-old boy after he stabbed a man in Perth, Western Australia. Authorities indicated that the assailant bore characteristics of terrorism.
The boy wielded a kitchen knife and exhibited indications of online radicalization, as suggested by state officials. Concerned members of the local Muslim community had alerted authorities prior to the late Saturday night attack in the Willetton suburb.
While the assault displayed traits commonly associated with terrorism, law enforcement refrained from categorizing it as a terrorist act pending further investigation. The perpetrator appeared to have acted alone, according to authorities in Perth.
The victim, who sustained a stab wound to the back, was reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical attention.
This incident follows recent events in which New South Wales police charged several youths with terrorism-related offenses in connection to the stabbing of an Assyrian Christian bishop during a live-streamed sermon in Sydney on April 15. Days before that incident, a mass stabbing in Bondi claimed six lives.
Australia, recognized as one of the safest nations globally according to federal government assessments, experiences rare instances of gun and knife crime.
