The No. 27 Huskies women’s tennis team’s season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA tournament in a 4-3 loss to No. 39 Princeton on Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
Princeton advances to face No. 5 seed Virginia.
For the Huskies, No. 1 Alexia Jacobs/Astrid Olsen (6-3) and No. 3 Melissa Sakar/Catherine Gagnon (6-4) provided victories to clinch the doubles point. In singles, winners were Alexia Jacobs and Erika Matsuda.
UW softball drops 2nd game in Utah
The No. 9 Washington softball team fell 2-1 in Game 2 against Utah on Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City.
The Huskies moved to 31-12 (13-10 Pac-12).
Lindsay Lopez (10-3) got the start, going 11/3 innings with three hits and two runs allowed. Sidne Peters came on in relief, giving up only two hits and a walk with no runs allowed in 42/3 innings.
UW’s Sydney Stewart tied a team record for most doubles in a game with three.
Peters and the Husky defense retired the final 12 Utah batters.
• Seattle U defeated host UT Arlington 4-3. Sydney Frankenberger, Nicola Simpson and Karen Spadafora each had two hits for the Redhawks (22-30, 14-12 WAC).
BASEBALL
• UW (18-21-1, 9-14 Pac-12) came out strong, scoring in the first five innings to win 14-9 over host Arizona State (25-23, 13-13). AJ Guerrero had three hits and five RBI for the Huskies.
• Host WSU (20-24, 8-14 Pac-12) turned back Oregon State’s (34-12, 13-9) seven-run ninth to win 10-9. Logan Johnstone collected four hits for the Cougars.
• Seattle U split a doubleheader at Utah Valley. The Redhawks (14-33, 7-17 WAC) won the first 11-10. Utah State (25-23, 15-9) took the second 7-3.
MINORS
• The Tacoma Rainiers (18-14) struck out 18 times, dropping Game 5 of the six-game series 1-0 to the host Sacramento River Cats (21-11).
In his third start on major-league rehab, Bryan Woo was strong, throwing five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits while striking out six of the 18 batters he faced.
• The Everett AquaSox (10-16) topped the Hillsboro Hops (11-15) 7-1 at Funko Field. Brock Rodden had a home run in the fourth inning.
TRACK AND FIELD
• Three from Seattle Pacific won events at the Linfield Open in McMinnville, Ore.
Freshman Mason Hrcek cleared an outdoor-best 14 feet to win the men’s pole vault, his first college win.
On the women’s side in pole vault, junior Emily Thomason cleared 11 feet, 9 inches for the win.
Junior Johanna Brown took the women’s 400-meter dash at 57.97.
