The Seattle area will see warmer temperatures later in the week and the first 80-degree day of the season could come as soon as Saturday.

But first, the region will have to muddle through at least one more chilly and rainy day, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

On Monday, expect a continuation of the drizzly, cloud-covered weekend, with a high in the mid-50s, rain and showers, maybe thunderstorms, and a stiff breeze. Tuesday should brighten up a bit, and get a bit warmer, with another chance of showers, but some sun, as well.

The region will turn the corner on Wednesday, as temperatures break into the 60s and as the sun rids itself of the clouds.

Then it’s up from there, with a high near 70 on Thursday and in the upper 70s on Friday, and yet more sun on both days.

Saturday will act as a prologue to summer, with the forecast showing the possibility of 80 degrees.

It would be earlier than normal for the first 80-degree day of the year. Seattle typically doesn’t see temperatures in the 80s until at least later in May, the weather service said on X. But such temperatures have shown up earlier, with 1987 seeing 80-plus degrees on April 1.

Kayla Mazurkiewicz, a meteorologist with the weather service in Seattle, said it’s unclear whether the warm front is a sign of more warm days to come, but she can’t rule it out either.

“It’s hard to tell,” she said. “We’re getting to that season where we’re shifting gears. … I’m not going to say it’s a fluke because Seattle does have warm days. But this is probably like a nice little warmup in May. We do experience these here and there.”
