Great Eastern FX Introduces the XO Variable Crossover Pedal

Great Eastern FX XO Variable Crossover PedalGreat Eastern FX has announced the XO Variable Crossover pedal that, although designed for both guitar and bass, will be especially notable for bassists. The pedal splits your signal into two frequency bands (high and low), which are sent to two independent effects loops. This lets you apply different effects to different parts of your signal.

“Whether you want to restrict a particular effect to just one part of the frequency spectrum – fuzz on just the lows, for example, or reverb on just the highs – or combine different effects on the two bands at the same time, the XO opens up a whole host of creative possibilities,” the company writes. “And for bass guitar, the ability to apply effects to the mid and high frequencies while leaving the lows untouched effectively means that no guitar pedal is off-limits.”

The pedal has a large knob to set the center frequency of the crossover. From there, you can set the range of the crossover frequency for either guitar or bass with the Range switch. A Phase switch puts the high and low bands out of phase, while the Send Flip switch swaps the high and low sends over. “With the switch down, the high band is routed to the low send and the low band is routed to the high send,” Great Eastern explains. “This allows you to instantly swap over the effects placed in the two send/return loops without having to re-patch any cables.”

Finally, it has Return Balance and Dry Blend knobs for keeping your tone and correcting the level.

Great Eastern FX posted a deep dive video on the pedal. You can hear it used with bass at the 21:41 mark.

The Great Eastern FX XO Variable Crossover is available for $279.
