Jerry Lawler will no longer appear on WWE broadcasts after his contract was not renewed.

Mike Johnson of PW Insider reported the company chose to not retain Lawler when his deal expired at the start of 2024. He does remain with the company under a Legends contract, which allows WWE to use his likeness in video games and other promotional material.

Lawler has been with WWE almost continuously since 1992. His only departure was a nine-month absence in 2001 when he quit in protest of his then-wife, Stacy Carter, being fired by the company.

Lawler returned later in 2001 and was the longtime color voice alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Ross. Lawler and Ross are considered arguably the greatest announcing duo in professional wrestling history.

In recent years, Lawler has been used on TV sparingly, mostly for one-off appearances and kickoff shows ahead of premium live events. He suffered a stroke in February 2023 and did not appear much on WWE television over the course of that year.

"My health is great," Lawler recently said. "I just (went) over to the doctors to get back on the road from my knee replacement and then of course, still some minor difficulties from the stroke. But all of that stuff is coming around fast."
