Otis Tabbed SEC Player of the Week

Korbe Otis earned her second SEC Player of the Week award en route to helping the Gators to a 4-0 record this week against Top 25 opponents.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Korbe Otis of the Florida softball team was announced as this week's Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league office Monday afternoon.

Otis helped lead the Gators (43-12) to a 4-0 week with wins over Top 25 opponents that included then-ranked No. 12/14 Florida State and an SEC series sweep of No. 8 Texas A&M.

The junior outfielder turned in an outstanding week at the plate en route to those victories as she batted .636 (7-for-11) with 10 RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and a pair of home runs. She tied her career-highs in hits (4) and RBI (5) in the Orange & Blue's walk-off series clinching victory in game two over TAMU this past Saturday.

Four of the RBI came from that game came in the bottom of the second inning when she blasted her first grand slam of the season in the bottom of the second inning that gave the Gators a 7-2 lead.

The Littleton, Co., native has made a significant impact on the program this year as she leads the team with a .455 average at the plate with 66 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 50 RBI and 50 walks.

This is Otis' second SEC Player of the Week honor and it's the fifth over SEC Player of the Week award earned by the Gators. The five SEC Player of the Week accolades tie the program record for awards won during a single season in program history as five players were awarded that particular honor during the 2013 season.

Florida now sets its sights on the Southeastern Conference Tournament that is set to be held at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Ala. UF's first game of the tournament is set to take place Thursday, May 9, at 5 p.m. ET on SEC Network against the winner between No. 7-seed Georgia and No. 10-seed Auburn.
