A man who was knocked off his electric scooter by one driver, then struck by another driver in an April 30 crash in San Jose died of his injuries on Thursday, officials said.

The crash happened about 1:38 p.m. near the intersection of South 10th Street and Elizabeth Street, San Jose police said in a news release Monday.

An adult man was riding a Ninebot electric scooter on South 10th Street when he crashed into a Tesla Model Y turning from Elizabeth Street onto South 10th. The rider fell off the scooter and into the street, where he was struck by a 2008 Chevy Cobalt.

Both drivers remained at the scene and were cooperative with the investigation, authorities said.

Authorities transported the scooter rider to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was initially stabilized, according to the release. On May 2, the rider died of the injuries inflicted in the accident.

The crash marks the 15th traffic death and 15th fatal collision of the year. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Juan Bosques Ramirez, a 64-year-old resident of San Jose.

Police said another person died the same day from injuries she suffered after the car she was a passenger in was struck while turning into a parking lot.
