The Successor To The Switch Will Be Announced This Fiscal Year

Following

It took a while, but Nintendo has finally confirmed that the successor to their Switch console will be announced before the end of this fiscal year.

In a new Tweet from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa (shown below), he confirms two things. The first that is that we will have a new Nintendo Direct this June and the second is that the announcement for the Switch’s successor will happen before the end of March 2025.

Moreover, the Nintendo Direct this June will not be covering the Switch’s successor and will instead focus on the current Switch.

For once, this is a pretty clear piece of news surrounding Nintendo’s next console. This is not a rumor, this information is directly from the president of Nintendo.

As for what the next Nintendo console may be, I am expecting something fairly conservative and inline with what the Switch has done already.

The Switch has been wildly successful. In fact, it’s one of the most successful consoles Nintendo has ever released. So it would be strange for Nintendo to deviate too far from that.

This is not to say that Nintendo hasn’t gone completely bonkers in the past, but in this instance I would be surprised if Nintendo’s next console wasn’t some kind of handheld hybrid like the Switch. An evolution rather than a revolution, if you will.

Either way, the next year is going to interesting, not least with all the speculation surrounding Nintendo’s next move.
