James Gunn has released a first look at David Corenswet as the new Superman, confirming the release date for his debut in the process.

The star was announced as the next Clark Kent in 2023, with fans eagerly anticipating his debut as the iconic superhero.

We’ve had to wait a while for a first glimpse at the star in costume, but Gunn, who is also the co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, has now unveiled the first photo in a post on Instagram.

“Get ready. #Superman 7.11.25” he wrote in the caption, with the photo showing Corenswet in the famous suit as he put his boot on. In the background of the image, a giant eye-like entity can be seen with a bright pink trail, though it remains to be seen if this ties in with the film.

Corenswet will be joined by Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion and Nicholas Hoult in the cast, with the quartet playing Lois Lane, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern and Lex Luthor respectively.

Gunn, who previously worked with Marvel on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, announced in February that principal photography had begun on the film, as well as confirming that the title had been changed from Superman: Legacy to simply Superman.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” he wrote.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025,” he continued, accompanying a photo of the iconic Superman symbol.

Superman is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
