The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) of India conducts the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) exam to fill various non-gazetted positions in government ministries, departments, and offices.

These roles typically involve supporting tasks like peon, gardener, and office attendant.
The selection process consists of two stages: an objective test (Paper-I) and a written test (Paper-II). Only candidates who pass Paper-I qualify for Paper-II. The exam syllabus focuses on essential skills, including reasoning abilities, numerical skills, English language proficiency, and general knowledge about current affairs and India.

Age Limit

Most SSC MTS positions require candidates to be between 18 and 25 years old.

For some Havaldar positions in the Department of Revenue (CBIC) and a few specific MTS roles, where the upper age limit is extended to 27 years.

Educational Requirements

The minimum educational requirement to apply for the SSC MTS exam is passing the Matriculation Examination (or an equivalent) from a recognized board.
Here's a breakdown of the key points:

You must have a certificate or mark sheet proving you passed the 10th standard (matriculation) exam.
The board from which you received your education must be recognized.
Even if you appeared for the 10th exam but haven't received your results yet, you can apply. However, you'll need to submit the certificate by the specified cut-off date.
Distance learning programs are also eligible, but the awarding body must be approved by the Distance Education Bureau and University Grants Commission.

Selection Procedure

Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS): The selection process involves a computer-based exam (CBE) with two parts: Session-I and Session-II. Only candidates who qualify in Session-I will be evaluated for Session-II.
Havaldar: The selection process consists of three stages:

Computer-based exam (CBE)
Physical Efficiency Test (PET) or Physical Standard Test (PST): Only candidates who pass both the CBE and PET/PST will be considered for the Havaldar post. However, if a candidate qualifies for the MTS post but not Havaldar, their application for MTS will still be valid.

Pay Scale

The SSC MTS pay scale falls under Pay Band-1 (Rs. 5200-20200) with an additional Grade Pay of Rs. 1800 per month [based on the 7th Central Pay Commission]. This translates to an approximate in-hand salary range of Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 22,000 per month.
