One thing about Emma Chamberlain? She’s always going to keep her style looking fun, vibrant, and so Gen Z. Yes, even when she’s cosplaying as a literal decaying garden at the 2024 Met Gala. How does she do it?! Truth be told, Emma has always prided herself in teetering the line of being a relatable fashionista. So while her 2003 archival vintage Jean Paul Gaultier gown probably won’t be making its way into my closet anytime soon (@ JPG, my DMs are open though!), her super slicked back bun is. To achieve her look, Emma used none other than TikTok-viral brand Emi Jay—our chronically online fave strikes again! And we’ve got the 411 on exactly how to copy the look at home.

The first step celebrity stylist Sami Knight took to create Emma’s look was applying Emi Jay’s Angelstick Smoothing Balm at the hairline “to give a little grip and ensure all the hair was laying in the right direction.” As someone who struggles with taming her baby hairs and flyaways, I love using a hair balm versus a gel for all of my updo moments. Emma’s look is a good reminder of just how good this looks IRL!

After this, Sami pulled the back of Emma’s hair into a ponytail using the brand’s Mini Boar Bristle Brush. To soften the appearance, she then “pulled the hair [that’s on] either side in the front back to join it, leaving a center part and a couple of wisps out to frame her face.”

Once her hair was up and just about ready to take on fashion’s biggest night, Sami applied some more of the hair balm for an extra secure placement. And boy, did it ever look picture-perfect! If it’s good enough for Emma as she walks the steps of the Met, it’s a product I want in my cabinet, just saying!
