The NBA suspended Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley for four games Thursday over his actions during and after his team’s season-ending loss to the Indiana Pacers on May 2.

Beverley threw a basketball at fans behind the Bucks’ bench late in Game 6 of the Bucks-Pacers first-round series, hitting a female spectator. He then got the ball back and again fired it toward a male fan, who deflected and caught the ball. Beverley was then restrained by a teammate, and he was not ejected from the game.

During the team’s postgame media availability, Beverley asked ESPN producer Malinda Adams whether she subscribed to his podcast, “The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone.” When she said she didn’t, Beverley told Adams that she wouldn’t be allowed to interview him, then later moved Adams’s microphone away from his face and asked her to leave the scrum around his locker.

“Move that mic, please, or just get out of the circle, please, for me if you’re not subscribed to my pod. I appreciate it, thank you,” Beverley said to Adams.

Adams said Beverley called her to apologize the day after the game. It is assumed he will serve the suspension at the start of next season.

On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced that it is investigating an “NBA player and citizen” altercation that occurred at the Pacers’ arena the night of the game, according to multiple news outlets.

In 2021, Beverley earned a one-game suspension for shoving Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul from behind in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals, a punishment that was carried out in the regular season opener during the 2021-22 regular season.

While playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, Beverley also was suspended for three games in 2022 for shoving then-Suns center Deandre Ayton during a regular season game.

A 12-year NBA veteran, Beverley will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason after the expiration of the one-year contract he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers before this season. The 76ers traded Beverley to the Bucks in February. The 35-year-old started only 13 games for both teams this season.
