I thought Hawkeye was easily one of the highlights of the Multiverse Saga’s TV shows for Disney Plus. It’s not quite up there with Loki or WandaVision, but it’s a fun show that Marvel turned into a Christmas story.

Hawkeye also gives Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) a standalone adventure, something the MCU character definitely deserves. Add the introduction of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Echo (Alaqua Cox), as well as the appearances of the brilliant Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), and it’s hard not to have a good time with the show. But does Hawkeye really need a second season? Marvel and Disney might think so.

A well-known Marvel leaker claims that Hawkeye season 2 is in the works, and the scooper even provided a few key plot points. Some spoilers might follow.

According to MyTimeToShineHello, Disney has renewed Hawkeye for a second season.

The new story will be inspired by a movie called The Raid, with Kate and Clint being stuck in a single location. Also, Clint’s brother Barney will supposedly have a big role in season 2.

Here’s a quick synopsis of The Raid from IMDb, which was a 2011 movie written and directed by Gareth Evans (which also got a solid sequel in 2014):

A SWAT team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs.

As noted by Murphy’s Multiverse, Barney Barton is a significant character in the comics. Like Clint, Barney was a high-level athlete and an FBI agent. Barney was also trained by Buck Chisholm (aka the supervillain Trick Shot), who trained Clint.

Finally, Barney became a member of Norman Osborn’s Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers team after Baron Zemo manipulated him. Barney then became known as Trickshot himself. He fought Hawkeye and fell out with his brother, but they eventually reconciled.

I won’t lie; I’d love to see more of Clint and Kate working together in the MCU. I also want to see Renner back in action, especially after the accident he survived. Not to mention that getting more of Hawkeye’s story into the MCU is an exciting prospect.

But do we really need a Hawkeye story to advance the Multiverse Saga at this point? Just a few days ago, Bob Iger said that Marvel will focus on quality over quantity, both when it comes to movies and Disney Plus shows.

In the past, Iger also hinted that Marvel would make stories with heroes that fans want to see, with a focus on the Avengers. He teased Avengers movies in more recent comments as well. Hawkeye would surely be on a list of fan-favorite MCU superheroes.

Also, rumors say the MCU will get a Young Avengers team. The Marvels already seemed to imply that’s the case by having Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) meet Kate at the end of the movie. Any Young Avengers project would have to have Clint in it in some capacity. After all, Kate might still need some guidance.

I’ll also note that Marvel has announced release dates or windows for the MCU shows currently in development. It looks like the schedule for 2024 and 2025 might be completed, but we have no idea what follows after that.

Given Iger’s comments, I wouldn’t expect Hawkeye season 2 on Disney Plus sooner than 2026. The leaker hasn’t specified an actual premiere date, as you can see in the tweet above.
