ForbesToday's 'Wordle' #1062 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, May 16th

Another Friday, another chance to double your Competitive Wordle score with 2XP Friday! For those of you who play Competitive Wordle against the Wordle Bot or against me or against your own personal rivals, this is the day of the week where you can win big or lose spectacularly, doubling both positive and negative scores.

It’s also Friday, which means you’re almost to the finish line this week. I’m using that particular phrasing because I just signed up for a 5-race series of summer runs here in my hometown in the mountains. We’re at around 7,500 ft above sea level so the air is thin and oxygen is in short supply. It’s a great place to train and many professional athletes and Olympian competitors do just that. I’m just trying to get back in shape!

The last time I could safely say I was in really good shape (for me, not compared to many) was in 2019 when I last did this running series. I was down to an 8-minute mile and had lost a bunch of weight. Then COVID-19 happened, I got really, really sick for about two months, and have had weird respiratory and digestive issues ever since. Couple that with some depression (and other mental health issues) and I’ve really let myself go. I aim to change all that over the summer and get to next winter with a strong body and a stable emotional and mental state. It’s good to have goals!

Here’s a goal: Beat me at Competitive Wordle today. It’s very achievable given my score! Let’s do this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Things got off to a great start today and then sort of fizzled out when it came down to a coin toss. STORE opened with style, leaving me with three yellow boxes and—I learned later—just 21 remaining words.

I decided that I had enough letters to just juggle them around rather than guess an entirely new batch, so I went for a word that could eliminate the most vowels: RATIO did just that, leaving me with one green ‘T’ but no new letters.

I pondered for a bit and could only come up with two possible solutions: TUTOR and MOTOR. Both words had double letters (O and T) but one had a letter that I hadn’t tried yet, so I guessed MOTOR. Alas, the answer was TUTOR. Oh well!

Competitive Wordle Score

For the first time in a long time, I get 0 points on a 2XP Friday. 0 for guessing in four; 0 for tying Wordle Bot who also guessed in four; and 0 x 2 = 0. BIG FAT ZEROES ALL THE WAY DOWN. Sigh.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word "tutor" originates from the Latin word "tutor," meaning "a guardian or watcher." This Latin term comes from the verb "tueri," which means "to look at, watch, or guard." The concept of a tutor as someone who provides instruction or guidance can be traced back to this idea of guardianship and supervision. Over time, the term evolved to denote a person who teaches or provides academic guidance, particularly in a one-on-one or small group setting.
