Andy Powell, who led the Washington men’s track and field team to the championship in the final Pac-12 track meet last weekend, was named the Pac-12 Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
Next week, Washington will head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA West Prelims with a total of 39 entries competing to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
MINORS
• Jonatan Clase went 3 for 3 and stole his 11th base, but the host Tacoma Rainiers (23-20) lost to the Sacramento Bees 5-2.
• Victor Labrada went 3 for 3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored to help lead the Everett AquaSox (16-20) over the visiting Eugene Emeralds 5-3.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
• Peyton Schulze hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 11th inning as host California beat Washington 6-5.
Cam Clayton went 3 for 5 with a home run for Washington (19-28-1, 10-19 Pac-12).
• Oregon rallied to take the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the 20th-ranked Ducks beat visiting Washington State 8-4.
Joey Kramer homered as one of just three total hits for Washington State (21-31, 9-20 Pac-12).
• Jackson Reed went 2 for 4 with a home run in visiting Seattle U’s (17-35, 10-19 WAC) 9-5 loss to Abilene Christian.
HOCKEY
• Cale Fleury scored twice, Shane Wright added another, and the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the Kraken’s AHL affiliate, beat the Ontario Reign 5-3 to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five Pacific Division Finals series.
GOLF
• Washington State’s Preston Bebich fired a 5-under 67 and is tied for first place after the opening round of the Golfweek National Golf Invitational in Maricopa, Ariz.
