Monterey police are reminding people of the dangers of drug use after two people died of suspected overdoses in as many days this week.

The deaths happened Tuesday on the Monterey Peninsula College campus and Wednesday on the 700 block of Lottie Street, police said.

In a news release Friday, police said drug overdose deaths are increasing, with about 11,000 reported in California in 2022 and about the same amount reported in just the second quarter of 2023.

To help prevent lethal overdoses, people can find Naloxone nasal spray at the Monterey Transit Plaza at 500 Tyler Street, the Monterey Police Department at 351 Madison Street and the Monterey Outreach and Navigation Center at 401 Camino El Estero.
