Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer doesn't seem threatened that his team used the No. 13 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft on Brock Bowers, who plays the same position.

Instead, he's "excited" to team up with the Georgia product.

"Our job is to win ball games," Mayer said Saturday during a conversation with Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "As an offense, we need to score touchdowns. And that's what we're going to do to the best of our ability. … We got a lot of weapons. I'm excited, I already met Brock, been practicing with Brock for a week. He's a great guy."

The Bowers selection drew some criticism since the Raiders used a premium pick on a tight end instead of another position. That they also just drafted Mayer in the second round the previous year made it an even more questionable move, especially after the Notre Dame product showed flashes of his potential on his way to 27 catches for 304 yards and two touchdowns in his first season.

But Bowers is also a special prospect.

He won two national championships at Georgia as a matchup nightmare who is too athletic for most linebackers and too big for many safeties. That helped him tally 31 total touchdowns in three years with the Bulldogs and should allow the Raiders to create mismatches at the NFL level.

"He can do it all," Mayer said.

Defenses are going to have to figure out a way to deal with Davante Adams, Bowers, Jakobi Meyers and Mayer when the Raiders take the field, which is surely what the front office had in mind when it made the No. 13 pick.
