US Rep. Anna Paulina Luna publicly defended President
Donald Trump after a new book detailed a comment he allegedly made while offering her a place to rest on his private jet.
According to "Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump’s Return to Power" by Axios reporter Alex Isenstadt, Trump offered his bed to the then-pregnant Luna during a flight in the summer of 2023, quipping, "Just don't tell Melania. She doesn't like other women on my bed."
Luna, however, swiftly pushed back against the claims. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Florida congresswoman described Trump's gesture as "the most compassionate thing that could've been done" given her condition at the time. Luna explained that she was experiencing symptoms of pre-eclampsia, a serious pregnancy complication, and that Trump offered the back room on his jet out of concern for her well-being. "He did this in a respectful way and in front of my husband, of which we thanked him," she wrote.
Luna also criticized Isenstadt for not reaching out to her for comment, calling the book a "hit piece" and suggesting that anyone in Trump's circle cooperating with the author "needs to be cut off immediately." She further emphasized that Trump's team had medical personnel on board, "in case anything happened and they were aware of how pregnant I was."
"This was the most compassionate thing that could’ve been done at the time. I find it disgusting that the author fails to recognize that. A few weeks later, I was induced because I did have pre-eclampsia . The author of this book never reached out to me for comment. Which means that this book is likely going to be a shit hit piece. If people in POTUS orbit are talking to this author, they need to be cut off immediately. This is gross," she added to her defense.
Steven Cheung, Trump's communications director, also dismissed the book's claims, calling it "a work of fiction" and accusing reporters of "peddling lies" for financial gain.
The book, which promises "never-before-reported" details of Trump's political resurgence, also alleges that Trump made disparaging comments about other Republicans and women who have accused him of misconduct.
The book also claims to recount other controversial remarks allegedly made by Trump, including insults toward Republican allies such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Lindsey Graham. Trump reportedly said he would "squash" DeSantis "like a bug" during the 2024 primary season and mocked casino mogul Steve Wynn for suggesting Senator Tom Cotton as a potential vice president.
