Looking to hit a home run with a new home? Look no further. A St. Petersburg, Florida, home built in 1924 that Babe Ruth rented is on the market, according to Smith & Associates, who has listed the property for $1.865 million. Ruth rented the home while attending spring training in 1935, according to The Tampa Bay Times. That year would mark his final season in the major leagues, which he spent with the Boston Braves. Preservationist Maureen Stafford spent three and a half years restoring the property. “It was unbelievably overcome with mold,” she told the newspaper. “It was just so far gone structurally.” The 1,713-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom house is in St. Petersburg’s Historic Old Northeast neighborhood and merges “historical charm with contemporary comfort,” per the listing. The craftsman bungalow-style home has a wooden frame with wooden siding, plus a shingled roof. It also has a courtyard, French patio doors and tropical gardens surrounding the property. Inside, the house is complete with crown molding, coffered ceilings and wooden cabinets. It features an open floor plan with tile and wood flooring. The outside space includes a fireplace, lounge seating and tile and brick design. Additionally, the backyard features an in-ground salt water pool that can serve as an escape from the Florida heat.
