SAN JOSE — A man was arrested in connection with a stabbing Monday in unincorporated San Jose after an hours-long standoff, authorities said.
The stabbing was reported just before 3:40 p.m. on South Bascom Avenue, near Elliott Street, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived to find a man suffering from an apparent stab wound.
The victim was taken to an area hospital. As of Tuesday, the victim was in stable condition with non life-threatening injuries, said Russell Davis, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.
Around 6:15 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office announced a person of interest had been detained in connection with the stabbing. David Gutierrez, a 30-year-old resident of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody with no bail and will appear in court May 8.
“There is no threat to public safety,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.
