OAKLAND — A motorcyclist who died in a collision with an SUV Sunday afternoon on Interstate 880 was identified by the coroner’s bureau on Tuesday as Steve Pinto, 40, of Fremont, authorities said.
Pinto died after his motorcycle collided with the rear of an SUV about 4:40 p.m. Sunday on southbound I-880 near Hegenberger Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver was not hurt and was cooperating with investigators, the CHP said.
Two highway lanes were closed for about two hours Sunday afternoon.
The CHP said the collision is still under investigation, and that it was still unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role.
