EL CERRITO — An infant escaped without injury, but four adults were hospitalized in a five-car crash Tuesday, fire officials said.

A helicopter airlifted one person to the John Muir Medical Center’s trauma unit in Walnut Creek after being cut free from the wreck with hydraulic tools, and three others went by ambulance, Battalion Chief Michael Pigoni of the El Cerrito Fire Department said in a statement. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on San Pablo Avenue at Moeser Avenue.

Other details regarding the crash were not available immediately.

Emergency personnel checked the infant at the scene and determined it wasn’t injured, Pigoni said. The infant was reunited with its family.

The conditions of the four people hospitalized were not available, but Pigoni said they suffered injuries that ranged from critical to serious.
