SAN JOSE — It’s been 39 days and counting since San Jose last had a taste of 90-degree weather, a streak that may end this week as temperatures heat up in the Bay Area.
A high-pressure ridge moving off the eastern Pacific Ocean brought much warmer air to the Bay Area on Tuesday and was expected to do the same Wednesday, with temperatures in some inland locations reaching 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
“It’s going to warm up, no question about that,” said Rick Canepa, a meteorologist with the weather service.
San Jose is predicted to reach 90 degrees Wednesday, which would be the first time since July 27 that the city hit that mark. San Jose went the entire month of August without reaching 90 degrees for just the second time since 1980 and the 15th time since record keeping began in 1893.
Temperatures began to climb Tuesday, with highs of 82 in Oakland and Mountain View, 87 in San Jose, 90 in Concord and 91 in Morgan Hill, said Steve Anderson, a meteorologist with the weather service.
Wednesday is expected to be the warmest day of the week, with predicted highs of 84 in Oakland, 91 in Mountain View, 95 in Morgan Hill and 98 in Concord.
Temperatures are expected to cool down Thursday by about seven degrees, according to the weather service.
