Maggie Gyllenhaal adores her family. But the 40-year-old daydreams about an hour or two away from her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, and their two daughters.
The Deuce actress made the relatable confession when she was asked what she likes to do in New York City.
“I like to be alone,” she admitted at the Vulture Festival in NYC on Saturday, May 20. “I like to eat something nice. Get some exercise. Shop a little. I just like to hang out by myself. I’d like to have no where to be. This is total fantasyland. This never happens.”
But the HBO star, who shares Ramona, 11, and Gloria, 6, with The Looming Tower actor, 47, acknowledged there will come a time when she feels differently. “I think there will be another part of my life where I don’t want to be alone at all,” Gyllenhaal revealed. “I [will] just want to have my girls at home, you know, when they’re away at school or married or whatever. But at the moment, it’s so precious to have just a second by myself.”
When it comes to show business, Gyllenhaal noted she has learned a lot from her mom, screenwriter and director, Naomi Foner, who was in the audience.
“I think I’m very lucky in that my mother, she has often has an artistic point of view, and feels entitled to say it,” shared the older sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. “She was giving me advice on something I’m working on in the car on the way here!”
