Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 Is A 1TB Smartphone

This article is more than 5 years old.

We know almost everything about the Galaxy Note 9, thanks to Samsung ‘accidents’. But now the company’s latest blunder has confirmed perhaps the very best thing about its new phone…

In an error of quite remarkable proportions, Samsung New Zealand published the official Galaxy Note 9 promo video to YouTube. In it, Samsung hints at many features we already knew, but it specifically confirms the Galaxy Note 9 will have a massive amount of storage.

Approximately halfway through the 30-second ad, Samsung touts the Galaxy Note 9 as being “1TB Ready with expandable memory” then shows a 512GB microSD card going into the phone. Basic arithmetic, therefore, confirms the Galaxy Note 9 can be purchased with up to 512GB of internal memory.

This is not only a massive and class-leading amount (iPhones top out at 256GB), but it is also a massive U-turn from Samsung who has previously shipped its phones with minimal internal memory and relied upon microSD cards for a bigger boost. This was a bizarre decision given Samsung’s position as one of the world’s largest smartphone memory makers.

Inevitably, Samsung New Zealand pulled the Galaxy Note 9 video soon after publishing but for those who still want to see it, AndroidAre made a copy which you can view below.

Furthermore, if you aren’t interested in buying a Galaxy Note 9 with this much storage (options should start from 128GB), the promo hints at multiple upgrades that have already been widely leaked. These include a slightly larger display, greater RAM and a massive battery.

We also know the day the Galaxy Note 9 goes on sale and how much it will cost.

Despite this, the Galaxy Note 9 is still likely to be the very last Note as Samsung is planning to cancel the range. But fear not because the company already has more ambitious plans and they are coming soon
