Trent Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool defender signs new five-year deal

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new five-year deal until 2024.

Alexander-Arnold, 20, came through the academy at Anfield and has established himself as first-choice right-back since making his debut in October 2016.

He has made 67 appearances for the Reds, scoring four goals, and was part of the 2018 England World Cup squad.

"When it comes to playing football, there is only one club for me," said Alexander-Arnold.

Speaking to the club's official website, he added: "I'm ecstatic and really proud. I feel privileged to have the support and the trust the club has in me to offer me a new deal.

"There was no doubt in my mind to sign and extend the years I have with the club. Hopefully we can achieve a lot of success in those years.

"The last 18 months especially have been very special. Hopefully the next 18 months and even further on than that will be even more special."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "Trent is one of the most relentless professionals I have met when it comes to focusing on getting better each and every day.

"This is not to compare with any legend past or present, because he will make his own story. As a player for LFC he is the embodiment of the sentiment: 'We're never gonna stop.'"

The deal follows left-back Andrew Robertson signing a new five-year contract with the Premier League leaders on Thursday.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to be sidelined for at least a fortnight with a knee problem after being injured in the warm-up before Saturday's 1-0 league win at Brighton.

He does not need surgery but is set to miss home games against Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Every club needs a genuine local player Trent is a rarity now and credit goes to Klopp for encouraging youth to have the belief to express themselves Trent will go on to be a club and country great

Tremendous player and boss lad. Trent, Joe Gomez, VVD and Robbo with Alisson behind for the next 8-10 years and the three upfront means trophies galore.

Back to football... What a player and loving the fact liverpool are smashing in all these new contracts. I want us to win everything but we can only do this long term if we start investing into our future and young players.

Liverpool fan or not a cracking footballer with a good mentality, getting experience at such a young age of playing against the world's bestband showing no fear, will be a star for club and country if all keeps progressing.

Absolutely brilliant news, he’s one that’ll stay with the club his entire career because he loves the club, is good enough and will improve still so much. Scary to think how good he’ll be when he’s at his peak. He’s humble enough to be one of, if not, the best, right back in the world. With Robertson still young enough to improve a lot as well as Virgil, we’ll have SOME defence for years to come!

How I wish there were dozens of TAA in top club in Englands. A talented, decent, local lad connecting with the fans (some being his neighbours) and giving his best for his club.

There are, of course, many youngsters of similar potential around but in clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea they are ignored in favour of foreign players who don’t have the same appeal as far as I’m concerned

So many bitters on here. The lad is young, a great defender and can not only cross the ball, but score goals too. He's the next big thing to come out of England. Anyone who thinks otherwise is bloody deluded.

I genuinely hope LFC win the title this year but I fear that unless Klopp signs a defender in this transfer window they are only an injury to Van Dijk or Alysson away from throwing it away. I couldn't understand letting Clyne go out on loan when winning the title was a real possibility. I know that when fit LFC have a great defence now but Gomez has been a big loss and now TAA and Lovren out

This young man is exactly what football should be about. He’s a perfect role model to others.

Also, you can see that Liverpool have got things right, by enabling a player like this to thrive at the club. And it’s not a one off either. Robertson has just signed a long term deal and he is another fantastic young man, with a great head on his shoulders.

He's a decent player already, who could go on to become a very good player, so it makes sense for Liverpool to secure his services long term.

As for the player, he's at a club who are playing him regularly and are going somewhere, so it makes sense for him.
