Livingston Chatman Named to 2019 SEC Basketball Legends Class

Chatmas averaged 16 points per game in helping the Gators claim their first SEC championship during the 1988-89 season.
Livingston Chatman has been named to the 2019 SEC Basketball Legends class, the Southeastern Conference announced on Friday. Chatman was a key player on the Gators' first SEC championship team, averaging 16.0 points in 1988-89. Chatman will be honored at halftime of Florida's first game in the SEC Tournament in Nashville.

Chatman suited up for the Gators from 1987-91, totaling 1,341 points in 101 appearances (13.3 ppg), ranking 24th on Florida's all-time scoring list.

"It is an honor to be thought about, as well as recognized, as one of the legends in the Southeastern conference," Chatman said.

The Lakeland native earned AP and UPI All-SEC honors in 1989 and was named the SEC Tournament MVP that season after scoring 70 points in three games to lead UF to its first tournament final since 1934. That performance still stands as a Florida record for most points in a single SEC Tournament.

He was an AP Freshman All-American and SEC All-Freshman in 1988.

Chatman played 1,269 minutes in that SEC championship 1988-89 season, the 4th-highest single-season total in Florida history.
