Throw Out All of Your Uncomfortable Underwear Right Now

Life’s too short for uncomfortable underwear.

I was reminded of my disdain for the underwear often offered to women or photographed in magazines when I came across a reader comment on Cup of Jo:

My snarky goal one year was to replace all of my small, silly underwear with huge panties and just BE OK WITH IT, and it is still the best resolution I’ve ever made! My life seriously changed when I bought undies two sizes too big. So comfy! No wedgies! I am a hardcore big panty evangelist now.

You know what feels really good? Underwear that covers your entire ass and you can comfortably wear throughout the day. You know what does not feel good? Ruffles, buttons, clasps, most thongs, underwear that’s shrunken a bit too much in the dryer, etc. We all deserve so much more than that.

So all of you out there with ladies’ underwear: Throw out all of your uncomfortable pairs right now. If you have a few pairs that you feel especially sexy in, keep them! I’m talking about the day-to-day underwear that leaves marks in your skin, bunches up or is just plain old. (And if anyone out there hasn’t freshened up their underwear drawer in the past 12 months, it wouldn’t hurt to do so.)

Do yourself something nice this weekend and go through your underwear drawer piece by piece. You can try Marie Kondo’s method—toss them if they no longer spark joy—or simply ask yourself if you feel comfortable when you wear them. If you don’t, throw them out.

Then buy yourself a few new, comfortable pairs, whatever that means for you (I suggest these), and embrace your undie-freedom. It feels so, so good.
