It appears the Glover Quin era is over for the Detroit Lions.
The Lions announced Friday afternoon that the veteran safety has been released from the team. The move will end up saving the Lions $6.25 million in cap space, but will put an end to an era in which Quin acted as the leader for a strong secondary over the past six years.
Since joining the team in 2013, Quin tallied 19 interceptions, 37 passes defended, two touchdowns and a Pro Bowl season.
Quin said his goodbyes to the city of Detroit via Instagram on Friday:
“They say all good things come to an end!! Thank you Detroit !! Its been real!! #ThankYou,” Quin wrote on social media.
In addition to releasing Quin, the Lions also cut wide receiver Bruce Ellington and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby.
While this marks the end of a great era of football for Quin, this also will be the beginning of a new one. Tracy Walker showed tremendous promise in his rookie year and it appears the Lions will be relying on him to take a big step in his second year in Detroit.
