College files theft case 11 months after 43 certificates go missing

BENGALURU: The Government Women's Polytechnic College on Seshadri Road, KR Circle, has lodged a complaint stating that graduation certificates belonging to 43 diploma students have been stolen, nearly a year after it was supposed to be issued to them.
The certificates were to reach the students in early 2018, but the college couldn't send the same. It kept the students waiting while checking with the department of technical education (DTE), which, however, kept insisting the certificates had been dispatched to the institution.
Under pressurefrom the students and unable to locate the certificates, college principal Salma Shaheen has now lodged a theft complaint with police. According to her, the certificates have been missing since March 2018.
Had the department initiated action earlier, it would have helped students as they need to submit the certificates to enroll in courses or get into jobs.
Pointing out that the complaint has come over 11 months after the certificates went missing, police sources said tracing them would be difficult.
Salma told TOI that she filed the complaint as the college would require a fresh set of certificates from the DTE.
