If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Apple is behind on innovation. Let’s look at one innovation in particular that we’ve heard a lot about recently. That is…
[checks notes]
…incredibly fragile folding screens that can break after just a day.
Yes, that big innovation that was all the rage just a few weeks ago turns out to be kind of not great when put into use.
“My Samsung Galaxy Fold screen broke after just a day.”
Well, is $1,900 a day too much to pay for the future?
Turns out it might be.
“Samsung delays Galaxy Fold indefinitely: ‘We will take measures to strengthen the display’.”
Oh, you wanted a strengthened display. Oh. Oh. Ohhhhhh.
Okay, we’ll get back to you on that.
On Twitter, Don suggests…
Imagine the headlines if this were Apple…
We kinda don’t have to, though. Apple yanked the virtual plug on the AirPower charging mat, an accessory product, and how did that go?
Mashable called it “one of [Apple’s] most embarrassing fails of all time” and “a massive blunder.”
Ewan Spence of the Forbes contributor network and Monkey Salad Pineapple School of Logical Discourse, said:
While the loss of AirPower sales should not have a significant financial impact, the psychological and reputational damage may be harder to ignore as Apple falls behind the competition in terms of 5G connectivity, multiple lens cameras, and quick charge technology.
So, the bar is set! Not shipping things that didn’t work out is a very bad thing that can damage your company! Good to kn-
Whoops, nope, gotta reset that bar because here comes Samsung, recklessly driving its clown car through a suburban shopping mall at breakneck speeds. The company is taking a fair amount of ribbing on Twitter, much like the ribbing that can appear at the fold line when you actually try to fold your Galaxy Fold. At the same time…
“Samsung Galaxy Fold phones are breaking. Here’s why it doesn’t matter.” (Tip o’ the antlers to Chris and Alex.
It just doesn’t matter. It’s Samsung. Duh. Exploding phones, breakable phones, sleazy ads suggesting you should stalk women on the ski slopes—all water under the bridge for Samsung.
The Macalope doesn’t really fault Samsung that much for shipping this phone. Samsungs gotta Samsung and Samsung has always shipped a myriad of phones often with features that were not ready for prime time. No, the Macalope faults the pundits who promoted foldable phones as anything other than expensive prototypes and pretended Apple was somehow “behind” by not shipping half-baked technologies. There are things to fault Apple for; that’s not one of them.
