Pasadena Showcase House at Descanso Gardens

The 55th annual Pasadena Showcase House of Design is open through May 19, and this year’s installation is back at the Pasadena-adjacent location that hosted the benefit design event in 2007. Spaces by L.A.-area designers such as Tracy Murdock, Frank Slesinski, Serena Brosio, and Kelly Ferm are on view at the historic 12,000-square-foot Boddy House, which newspaper publisher Elias Manchester Boddy hired architect James E. Dolena to design in 1939. The home is located within Descanso Gardens in La Cañada, and tickets cost $35–$50.

Sunny's Pop Pops Up

Sunrise Ruffalo's Sunny's Pop lifestyle shop, located in Sullivan County, New York, has taken up temporary residency at Zero + Mario Cornejo’s space at 8408 Melrose Place. The pop-up features a selection of home goods, ranging from ceramics to textiles, and will be open until May 19.

South Coast Plaza Hosts Spring Garden Show

South Coast Plaza shopping center in Costa Mesa is hosting a spring garden event this week, from April 25 to 28. Dozens of vendors, garden displays, workshops, kids’ events, and cooking demonstrations draw garden and plant enthusiasts from Orange County and beyond.

SCI-Arc Director Receives American Academy of Arts and Letters Honor

The American Academy of Arts and Letters has selected SCI-Arc director Hernan Diaz Alonso as a recipient of its 2019 Award in Architecture. The $10,000 prize is given by the honor society to “an American architect whose work is characterized by a strong personal direction.” Diaz Alonso has been a faculty member since 2001 and the architecture school’s director since 2015, in addition to serving as principal of the architecture practice HDA-x. Work by new members and award recipients will be on view in May at the American Academy’s gallery in upper Manhattan.
