The Night Of actress Poorna Jagannathan and Nikohl Boosheri, who is best known for her role on Freeform series The Bold Type, will lead a new drama, Alia’s Birth, from writer-director Sam Abbas.
The drama’s logline reads: “A rocky relationship between a female couple forces them to spend the night apart.”
Catharine Daddario will also appear in the feature, which is set to begin shooting this summer in New York.
Abbas will produce via his recently formed ArabQ Films, an Arab-based LGBTQ-focused banner, along with Bolivian production company Anacrónica, headed by Quim Del Rio and Nakai Mirtenbaum.
Tatiana Bears, Nicole Townsend and Neal Kumar are producing, with Sig De Miguel and Stephen Vincent co-producing. Executive Producers include Randelson Floyd, Suki Sandhu, David Klein, Josh Jupiter, Jorge Quintero, Lucky Cheng, Quim Del Rio and Nakai Mirtenbaum.
“I’m really excited to be working with such incredible talents. This film will be different than anything I’ve ever made so I’m very excited to be bringing it to life and shedding some light on a very personal story,” Abbas said in a statement.
The filmmaker made his feature debut with The Wedding, which starred Boosheri, and executive produced Matthew Puccini’s Sundance short Lavender, which was picked up by Fox Searchlight.
Jagannathan recently appeared in Sundance drama Share, can currently be seen in Hulu series Ramy and is set for the second season of Big Little Lies. She is repped by Artists & Representatives and Smith Talent Group. Boosheri is repped by Abrams Artists Agency, KC Talent and LINK Entertainment. Daddario is repped by Innovative Artists.
