Test results of child thrown off mall balcony are 'truly a miracle,' pastor says

The 5-year-old boy who was thrown off a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., has stunned doctors with his recovery, according to his family's pastor.

Landen Hoffman was allegedly tossed off a railing by Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, on the morning of April 12. He dropped 39 feet and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

On Monday, Mac Hammond, a pastor from the Living Word Christian Center, which Hoffman's family attends, revealed that he was invited to visit Hoffman before the child was set to undergo a five-hour MRI scan. After saying prayers for the boy, Hammond said he received some good news later that day.

"Landen's grandfather called me later that afternoon and said, 'Well, the MRI is a testimony itself,'" Hammond told the crowd at a worship session, which was recorded and posted on Facebook. "There was zero evidence of brain damage — not just brain damage, there wasn't even any swelling in the brain. No spinal cord injury, no brain damage, no internal injuries that were life-threatening."

Doctors only needed to treat Hoffman's broken bones and facial injuries, Hammond explained.

"One of [Landen's] attending physicians said this, 'This is truly a miracle. It's like he fell off a bicycle instead of off the third floor of the mall,'" Hammond said.

A GoFundMe to benefit Hoffman, set up by a friend of his family, has raised nearly $1 million in just 10 days.
