You can now brew Starbucks espresso at home with new Nespresso capsules

You've heard it before: You can shave time off your morning routine and save money by brewing your own cup of coffee at home. The only downside is that it never really tastes the same as getting it at Starbucks, especially if you order anything other than a plain black coffee, like a latte, flat white or cappuccino. But now, you really can make those same delicious espresso drinks at home with Starbucks by Nespresso.

Starting in May, Nespresso is selling Starbucks capsules for their espresso machines and the capsules are made with the same quality, 100 percent arabica Starbucks coffee beans. Surprisingly, this is the first time the two companies have collaborated.

Starbucks by Nespresso capsules come in five espresso flavors: Starbucks Espresso Roast, Starbucks Espresso Roast Decaf, Starbucks Blonde Espresso Roast, Starbucks Single-Origin Colombia and Starbucks Pike Place Roast. The classic espresso roast is Starbucks' signature espresso, the blend the company began brewing back in the 1980s.

Funny enough, Starbucks wasn't always known for its espresso drinks. When coffee company first opened in 1971, it was a roaster and sold whole-bean coffee for at-home brewers. Then Howard Schultz, former Starbucks CEO and executive chairman, went to Italy to visit coffeehouses in 1983. Feeling inspired, he convinced the Starbucks founders to add a small espresso bar in the back of one of its Seattle stores. Most Americans weren't familiar with espresso drinks and were used to drinking drip coffee, but within a few weeks, baristas couldn't stop making them.

“From the minute we opened, this much was clear to me: Starbucks had entered a different business,” Schultz said in a blog post for Starbucks. “There could be no turning back.”

Technically, coffee and espresso are the same thing in that they're brewed from the same beans. It's all in the way that each is brewed that makes them different. Espresso is brewed at a higher temperature using higher pressure methods and finer ground beans, like those used in a Nespresso machine.

You can order Starbucks by Nespresso capsules on Amazon, Walmart and Jet for $9.99 per 10-count (prices may cary) starting next month. They will also be available in select grocery stores later in the year.
