Tentative agreement reached after Faurecia plant in Saline strikes

A tentative agreement for a new labor pact has been reached at the Faurecia plant in Saline, after workers there went on strike early Friday.

Details on the agreement between the French-owned auto supplier and the United Auto Workers union were not immediately available. The UAW Local 892's 1,900 members are expected to vote on the contract sometime next week, Faurecia spokeswoman Misty Matthews said.

Workers at the plant went on strike at 12:05 a.m. Friday after the automotive supplier's contract with the labor union expired and no new pact was reached, though bargaining had continued after the strike was called. Second-shift workers were told to return to the job at 3 p.m. Friday.

Faurecia supplies parts for Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co., Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Tesla Inc. The Saline plant makes instrument panels and other components.

Local 892 and UAW Region 1A officials told members in a memo dated Thursday that the company's 2015 collective bargaining agreement had expired June 1. Region 1A Director Chuck Browning granted a three-week extension "in hopes of reaching an agreement we could all be proud of."

Members had been meeting with Faurecia officials in Saline to form a deal before the contract extension expired, according to UAW spokesman Brian Rothenberg.
