Model-actress-entrepreneur Lisa Ray turned author in 2019 with her debut memoir Close to the Bone. Ray was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer in 2009; she shared her experiences of fighting it in a blog named The Yellow Diaries which led to this deeply personal memoir.
Close to the Bone is not just a book about fighting cancer. It is an honest story of Ray's journey of being one of India's first supermodels at the age of 16, her entry into Bollywood and her brush with the Oscars, her battle with cancer, her heart-breaks and ultimately finding love, and embracing motherhood through surrogacy.
Ray also opens up about her equations with her Bengali father and Polish mother, and dealing with eating disorders at an early age. This book tells Ray's inspiring story of living her nomadic life to the fullest on her own terms, fighting her personal wars and emerging as a winner.
In the book, Ray also shares some of her pictures from her childhood and private life which add value to it. 'Close to the Bone is not a memoir, but my writing debut,' Ray says.
