PATNA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation has criticised the Narendra Modi government over the steep hike in the class 10 and 12 board examination fees by the CBSE and demanded its roll back.
Citing the two-fold rise in fees for general category students and hike for those belonging to the reserved SCs and STs, the party alleged that the move was a clear indication of the governments indication to "completely privatise education and employment."
"The governments priorities are hitting the depressed classes the most.
The regime claims to be pro-Dalit but is conspiring to deprive those from the weaker sections of a decent education", the party said in a statement on Tuesday after the first day of the state-level standing committee meeting of the CPI (ML) Liberation.
The party demanded an immediate rollback of the hike and also decided to launch a state-wide agitation to press the demand, the statement said.
The CBSE has increased the fees of Class 10 and 12 board examinations by up to Rs 1,150. The fees for general category students for both Class 10 and 12 have been doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects.
The SC and ST students, who were paying Rs 350 earlier, will now be supposed to pay Rs 1,200 for five subjects.
The ultra-Left party also deplored the scrapping of Article 370 and 35 A of the Constitution, alleging "this has resulted in burning the bridges that connected Jammu and Kashmir to the rest of the country ..."
"This undemocratic step of the government is not going to benefit anybody in Jammu and Kashmir. It may only herald a new chapter of repression and destruction. The CPI-ML Liberation stands in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and supports them in their demand for justice, the statement added.
