Sunday open thread: Do you feel better, worse or the same after loss to the Texans?

Well, that was less sucky.

NFL: Preseason-Detroit Lions at Houston Texans John Glaser-USA TODAY Sports

Week 2 of the preseason got off to a similar start as Week 1. After the first quarter, the Lions didn’t have much to show for themselves. The Texans’ first stringers on offense had their way with the Lions’ defense, and without Matthew Stafford, the offense stood no chance at moving the ball against Houston’s starters on defense.

When some of the reserves hit the field and the game reached the second quarter, things sort of started to turn in the Lions’ favor. Despite an awful start, they were able to keep the score within one possession for most of the game, before ultimately losing to the Texans by a score of 30-23.

Do you feel better, worse or the same after Preseason Week 2?

My answer: I feel maybe a little better, but mostly the same compared to last week. The O-line impressed me for the most part, which was an area that I felt a little disappointed with in Week 1. As for the other side of the trenches, I’m feeling extremely skeptical about the team’s depth and inability to rush the passer.

Without Trey Flowers, Mike Daniels and Da’Shawn Hand, the Lions are giving QBs all day to throw. If that issue continues with one or two of those guys back in the lineup, then we’ve got a major problem on our hands.

Unlike Week 1, there were plenty of players who performed well individually. David Fales had a heck of a bounce-back game after an awful game against the Patriots last week and an underwhelming training camp to date. Jalen Reeves-Maybin was lights out, making big plays in the backfield and playing well in coverage.

Overall, it was nice to see the Lions be competitive again and actually put some points on the board. Next week will be Detroit’s dress-rehearsal game where they will likely play most, if not all of their starters, and we should get a better idea of where the team stands in terms of talent.
