NEW DELHI: An Alliance Air flight from Delhi to Jaipur on Monday had to return midway and make an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International airport due to a “problem in the nose landing gear” of the aircraft. An Air India spokesperson said that despite the emergency landing, all 59 passengers on board were safe and were evacuated safely before being shifted to another aircraft.
The 9643 Delhi-Jaipur flight took off from Delhi at 8.13pm when, officials said, the pilot realised there was problem in the nose landing gear of the flight, along with other material failures.
Upon realising the problem, the pilot contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC), asking for an emergency landing at IGI airport. The ATC gave approval for the landing with the flight safely landing at 8.25pm at the Delhi airport. Officials said fire engines and airport staff were rushed to the spot, safely evacuating passengers from the plane.
“Due to a problem in nose landing gear and some material failure, the flight had to make an emergency landing at Delhi airport. All 59 passengers are safe,” the spokesperson said.
The landing gear is the undercarriage of an aircraft and is used for either takeoff or landing. A CISF official confirmed the incident, stating that the passengers were safe in the process.
The airline stated that the passengers were provided an alternative flight within an hour, with a majority of them opting to shift to the new aircraft. “All precautions were carried out during the landing as well as while evacuating passengers,” said an official.
