A new book, which is a reimagining of Vladimir Nabokov’s classic novel 'Lolita' is expected to be published this week in France. Written by French journalist and writer Christophe Tison, the new book is narrated from from Lolita's point of view, reported The Bookseller.
The new reimagining of 'Lolita' is titled 'Journal de L' ('Diary of L') and will be published by Editions Goutte d’Or. Lolita's fictional diary tells her side of the story, particularly her time spent with Humbert Humbert between 1947 to 1952 as in the original book.
The author, Tison, was himself abused sexually in his childhood.
Speaking on what made him write 'Journal de L', he said, according to The Bookseller, “I had to give her a voice, to speak, to finally hear Lolita. And what better than a diary where she would have confided herself fully, without shame. Where she would have told the truth... Because after all, Nabokov's novel is presented as Humbert Humbert's confessions and he can say what he wants, disguise reality, show only part of it.”
Meanwhile, the book is also being translated into English from French, and it is planned to release this year. "We have the brillant French-American translator Philippe Aronson preparing an English version of the book. The whole translation will be available by the end of September. We decided to have him translate the whole book because we're confident in the book's international dimension. We also have a big American producer reading the book for a possible serial adaptation," Clara Tellier, Head- Editions Goutte d'Or, said according to The Bookseller.
'Journal de L' ('Diary of L') will release on August 22, 2019.
