Rumor: Pistons favorite to sign Joe Johnson

Johnson showed out in the Big 3 and several NBA teams are interested

The Detroit Pistons are the favorites to land veteran wing Joe Johnson, according to unimpeachable source Frank Isola, who has literally never been wrong about anything ever.

Joe Johnson already had a workout scheduled for today with the Pistons. Does this mean that Isola is jumping the gun and the Pistons brass have not seen enough to make a decision on Johnson? Perhaps.

But if the mutual interest is real, and Detroit was willing to offer a guaranteed deal then I imagine he might leave Motown with a contract in hand.

That would mean the Pistons would have to cut the nongauranteed deals of reserve big man Christian Wood and fellow small-forward or small-ball power forward Michael Beasley.

Johnson played in the BIG 3 after his mom passed away in February and garnered significant buzz and talk of an NBA comeback.

He last played in the NBA in 2017-18 for the Houston Rockets. Johnson was a noted Pistons killer during his 17-year NBA career.

Other teams reportedly interested in Johnson include the Philadelphia 76ers, LA Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans.

Johnson used to be repped by Pistons executive Arn Tellem. The last time a longtime veteran and former Tellem client was free to sign with any NBA team and garnered significant interest from clubs was when the Heat let go of Wayne Ellington. Detroit got Ellington then.

Will history repeat itself with Johnson?
