Remember when Taylor Swift eviscerated Joe Jonas for breaking up with her in a 25-second phone call when they were, like, 18? Well, if this new report is to be believed, the way Miley Cyrus broke up with Liam Hemsworth might be way worse.
So on August 10, Miley’s rep released a statement that said, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.” It was quite the turn of events for the seemingly happy couple, who were together for 10 years up until that point. And it was also apparently news to Liam, who had been in Australia and didn’t even know he was about to be dumped publicly.
According to Page Six, he was “blindsided” by the rep’s statement and the photos of Miley kissing Kaitlynn Carter and Miley’s Instagrams that followed shortly after. But a different Page Six source who’s close to Miley said Liam wasn’t actually “taken by surprise” at the news but didn’t deny that he found out on social media.
Now, if this is true, we still don’t know what caused Miley to announce their breakup on social media before actually talking to Liam. Maybe it was because he was in Australia and didn’t set up his international phone plan in time, or maybe it was because of a bunch of different reasons.
Whatever the case may be, their relationship is completely over now, because on August 21, Liam filed for divorce and cited “irreconcilable differences” in the court documents.
