Melvin Gordon’s tweet about Lions kicker Matt Prater hilariously backfires

Maybe stay off Twitter during your holdout.

Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon hasn’t made a game appearance this year as he continues to hold out in search for a new contract.

And while he wasn’t responsible for the Chargers’ loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Gordon managed to earn himself a big, fat L of his own sitting at home.

Early in the game, Lions kicker Matt Prater wasn’t his reliable self. First, he missed an extra point that would’ve tied the game up early at seven. Then, just a quarter later, Prater missed a 40-yard field—a chip shot by Prater’s standards.

That’s when Gordon made a fatal mistake.

Oh no. Oh no no no no no.

When you have a punter pulling double duties, you absolutely do not upset the Kicking Gods, especially not in the building that destroys opposing kickers.

Of course, as fate would have it, Chargers punter/kicker Ty Long would go on to Audible Dong a 39-yard field goal off the left upright and follow it up with a missed 41 yarder on the following drive.

Those six points probably would’ve come in handy in a 13-10 game.

That’s why Lions safety Quandre Diggs waits until the end of the game to tweet (also because he happens to actually be playing right now):
