NEW DELHI: IndiGo’s Delhi-Istanbul flight of Sunday (September 15) left behind check-in baggage of passengers at IGI airport. While the airline says it did so on a few flights to Istanbul in recent days due to “strong headwinds”, passengers of the affected flights are fuming.
A passenger Chinmay Dabke tweeted from his handle @chinmaydabke : “Just flew in on flight 6E 11 from Delhi to Istanbul (Sunday) evening.
We received this piece of paper when we were waiting for our luggage at the belt. The airline did not load the luggage of the entire flight. Not a single passenger got their luggage…. I get you forgot the luggage for a few people on the flight. But the entire flight?”

An IndiGo spokesperson said: “Unfortunately due to the exceptionally heavy headwind we had certain pay load restrictions on a few fights to Istanbul which led to offloading of a limited number of checked-in baggage. In light of these limitations, we have upgraded our aircraft and adjusted the payload as long as the prevailing wind conditions remain, so all the left behind baggage will be carried today. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers.”
The same has happened on a few more Delhi-Istanbul flights of IndiGo in recent days. Replying to a passenger of Sunday flight who made this complaint, Manoj Jaiswal Tweeted from his handle @manojjaiswal1: “it seems you travelled on September 15 without baggage. We travelled on September 14 (on) 6E 11 and haven’t received the bags yet. This is very serious. We are now stranded with family (old and kids) in a different country with no basics, medicines. It’s a big mess.”

In a series of Tweets, Dabke added: “My father has his necessary medication in his luggage. He is a diabetes patient who needs his daily dose. Some other travelers were on connecting flights to their end destinations in different countries. What do these folks do?…”
He had a good word for IndiGo staffers in Istanbul, where on arrival passengers realised their baggage was not on the flight. “However, the only positive from this ordeal is that the ground staff at Istanbul airport was extremely cooperative and helped everyone fill out requisite forms so they can identify luggage and give it back to us. It is not easy dealing with 130+ angry Indians.”
