The Green Carpet fashion awards 2019 – in pictures

Here’s what an ethical red carpet looks like: the event celebrating sustainable style, now in its third year, saw celebrities and designers wear vintage, rented and ethically produced outfits

  • The Irish writer and activist Sinéad Burke wore handcrafted Roksanda to present the social media changemaker award to the Dutch model Doutzen Kroes. Her dress was repurposed from another gown to recreate a look from the SS20 collection that was shown at London fashion week.

  • Adut Akech, who co-hosted the event, wore Valentino, accessorising with naturally sourced Chopard diamonds. The gown was created using Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified silk, produced by a historical Italian supplier. All components were tested to verify the absence of dangerous chemicals.

  • Jess Glynne in a Vivienne Westwood gown made of organic ahimsa (peace) silk created by Cocoon in India, and certified by GOTS. Using such organic materials avoids the use of chemical agricultural pesticides which, in turn, helps to preserve land integrity.
