The Galaxy S10e

The Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ were joined by the cheaper Galaxy S10e when they arrived earlier this year. Attention in the press has since turned to the Galaxy S11 but new reports claim Samsung is currently working on a powerful Galaxy S10 Lite that’ll be positioned below the S10e model.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is 'Lite' only by name

Despite the rumored ‘Lite’ branding, Samsung’s upcoming smartphone features a spec sheet that’s anything but that. This is because, just like its premium siblings, the Galaxy S10 Lite is reportedly powered by the high-end Snapdragon 855 paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable internal storage. For reference, the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ ship with an identical configuration in the United States while the smaller Galaxy S10e boasts 6GB of RAM instead.

Lite-branded devices also tend to be quite a bit smaller than their regular counterparts but Samsung has plans to buck the trend by fitting the Galaxy S10 Lite with a massive 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that may include a notch instead of a punch hole. Naturally, such a large display will negatively affect battery life, but Samsung’s reportedly going to fix this by including a huge 4,500mAh battery that’s compatible with the 45W fast charging technology featured on the Galaxy Note 10+.

If you turn the Galaxy S10 Lite over, reports suggest you’ll find a triple-camera setup that’s pretty decent but not as impressive as the Galaxy S10’s. That’s because it’ll be led by the Galaxy A90’s 48-megapixel primary camera coupled with optical image stabilization. This is accompanied by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter and a dedicated 5-megapixel depth sensor for more natural portrait photos. The layout will be accompanied by an LED on the back and a 32-megapixel selfie camera up front.

Pricing and release date for the Galaxy S10 Lite hasn’t yet leaked but the branding suggests Samsung may launch the phone before Christmas in an attempt to capitalize on the lineup’s popularity and avoid any confusion next year when the Galaxy S11 arrives. Once sales commence, SamMobile says the phone will be available in Prism Black, Prism White, and Prism Blue.

Samsung is also working on a Galaxy Note 10 Lite

In addition to the Galaxy S10 Lite, Samsung is reportedly working on a cheaper, Lite-branded version of the Galaxy Note 10 that's apparently on track for a release later this year. Details about the phone are scarce at the moment but today's S10 Lite leak could mean the Note 10 Lite will also ship with flagship power rather than a mid-range Snapdragon chipset as previously suspected.

If Samsung follows this strategy, the differentiating factor between the Galaxy S10 Lite and Note 10 Lite could be the S Pen and pricing. The former could be available as a cheaper alternative for those who aren't interested in the company's stylus while the latter could be a slightly pricier version of the phone with S Pen, therefore opening up the accessory to an entirely new audience of customers.

Alternatively, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite could be an entirely different device that resembles a Galaxy Note 10e-like offering. If this is the case, Samsung will probably pair the Galaxy Note 10's flagship cameras with a flat Infinity-O display that boasts a downgraded resolution. Additionally, less RAM and 128GB of storage rather than 256GB could very possibly be part of the setup. Completing the package will probably be Android 9 Pie paired with One UI.
