Frank Gehry’s Warner Brothers HQ Gets the Go-Ahead

Urbanize Los Angeles reports that the site adjacent to the Burbank studios of Warner Brothers, which will house the 800,000-square-foot Second Century Project consisting of two buildings designed by Frank Gehry, has been cleared for construction. The project is slated for completion in 2023.

Year & Day Pops Up at The Great

Direct-to-consumer tableware brand Year & Day will stage a pop-up, designed by Studio Life/Style, at Emily Current and Meritt Elliott’s THE GREAT. shop at 8575 Melrose Avenue. The pop-up runs today through November 5. The inventory features Year & Day founder Kathryn Duryea’s favorite ceramics, flatware, glassware, and serving pieces from the brand, as well as the new Infinite Candle collection.

Flou Opens West Hollywood Showroom

Milan-based Flou lands on the West Coast this week with a new West Hollywood Design District space at 8784 Beverly Boulevard. On offer are the company’s signature bed products, as well as a range of furnishing collections and accessories.

Brooks + Scarpa Unveils Exhibition on Affordable Housing and Urbanism

The 18th Street Arts Center’s Airport Campus gallery, at 3026 Airport Avenue in Santa Monica, will present Brooks + Scarpa’s exhibition Dense-City: Housing for Quality of Life and Social Capital. The opening takes place on Saturday, October 19, from 5 to 8 p.m., and is on view through December 14. “As the demand and cost for housing continues to rise, Dense-City was conceived to raise awareness about more scalable, cost-effective, and high-quality multi-family housing, addressing solutions with the objective of giving everyone an affordable place to live,” managing principal Angela Brooks tells AD PRO.

Carpenters Workshop Gallery Exhibits in L.A. for First Time

Carpenters Workshop Gallery and gallery director Ashlee Harrison is bringing the latest exhibit from Julien Lombrail and Loic Le Gaillard to L.A. for the first time. Dark Fantasy, on view now through November 16 at UTA Artist Space, includes new pieces and projects by Virgil Abloh, Nacho Carbonell, Atelier Van Lieshout, and Studio Drift. The show encompasses over 50 pieces, and two dozen artists.

Bonhams Prepares for Modern Design and Art Auction

Bonhams Los Angeles’s Modern Design and Art Auction is ramping up for its October 27 launch. The catalogue boasts pieces by Sam Maloof, Greene & Greene, Frederick L. Roehrig, and Vladimir Kagan, along with Philippe Starck–designed furnishings from Ian Schrager’s 1999 overhaul of the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. The auction’s private preview will take place Tuesday, October 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can RSVP to events.us@bonhams.com.

Among the 20 contenders in National Geographic’s Vote Your Main Street campaign, organized in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is the Downtown Women’s Center on San Pedro Street. The winner will receive a $2 million preservation heritage grant from American Express. The candidates must carry significant ties to women’s history in the U.S.
