AIIMS Bhubaneswar to have new administrative block

Bhubaneswar: In order to create separate facility for administrative and research works, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar will come up with a new administrative block in its campus by spending around Rs 100 crore.
The eight storied building (G+8) will have office space for administration, finance, engineering departments and faculty members of the institute. Besides, doctors will have their laboratory in the building to conduct various research, said official sources.

Gitanjali Batmanabane, director of the institute, said foundation stone has been laid for the project in the campus and work will be started very soon. “Work of this major building will be completed within two years,” she added.
Total carpet area of the block is 2,90,520 square feet. The ground floor is earmarked for parking. It will have conference rooms for meetings and discussions. Facilities will be created in the new building for at least 100 faculty members to carry out their research.
Presently, there is no space available for faculty members to conduct their academic and research activities in the campus. Even there is no earmarked space for administration, finance and engineering wings of the institute.
Now offices for administration work are functioning from academic block. After completion of the construction of new building, more space will be created in the academic block for classrooms of students. Doctors will get chambers and laboratories in the upcoming administrative block.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar is spread over 91 acres at Sijua in the city. The foundation stone of the institute was laid by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on July 15, 2003. It was established as autonomous institution and institute of national importance through the AIIMS (Amendment) Ordinance passed on July 16, 2012. Classes for first batch of MBBS students of the institute were started in 2012-13.
