A great night greeted guests as they entered the preview gala for the seventh annual FOG Design+Art showcase on Wednesday night at the Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture. For one of the region’s most anticipated design and art presentations, 48 leading dealers and gallerists from around the globe have gathered to present a dynamic selection of 20th-century and contemporary design.
Throughout the evening, more than 2,000 design enthusiasts, collectors, and arts patrons joined steering committee members Douglas Durkin, Stanlee Gatti, Roth Martin, Katie Page, Allison Speer, Susan Swig, and Sonya Yu to get a first look—and more importantly, a first pick of the objects for sale—during the evening’s tiered entry schedule. This year saw the return of Gatti’s acclaimed 21POP installation, aptly titled “Seeing Things.” The installation showcases smaller-scale works by makers like San Francisco–based Lawrence LaBianca, who presented an array of handcrafted wooden gramophones for sale.
“Having 21POP back this year was a huge highlight,” said Allison Speer. “The whole energy of the evening was great, and having six new dealers participating helped strike a nice design balance.”
The night featured a star-studded guest list of local talent. Yves Behar, Ken Fulk, Vanessa Getty, Mark Pinus, and Sabrina Buell were all spotted perusing the displays and sampling the bites on offer.
Partygoers enjoyed a selection of artisan cocktails, courtesy of spirits sponsor Hangar 1, and a selection of passed hors d’oeuvres and plated dishes like petite winter squash curtido tacos, vegan porcini ravioli, beef–rice noodle mandu (dumplings), and braised pear and red cabbage, all from McCall’s. End-of-the-night favorites included a root-beer-float cart with boozy ice cream, pumpkin cheesecake shooters, and ube plum cookies.
